There is at least one exception to every rule, or so the saying goes. I am officially exercising my option on my own rule to only review albums within a year of release. So what am I doing reviewing an album that is 37 years old? I will tell you. It is so darn good and still holds up in today’s musical spider web. I heard this quite a bit in 1989 when it was released, but lost touch with it over the years. A few years ago, we reconnected and I gave it an earnest listen and was completely gobsmacked by how incredible it still sounded after all these years.

Analog Kid: OURB Album Review

OURB proves that rock and roll is still very much alive and well. Analog Kid delivers the goods with an offering that provides sounds and influences that listeners will be familiar with. It’s got prog roots with some great pop sensibilities. The songs are a continuation and appears to be a retrospective of life from birth through adulthood and maybe through death, depending on your interpretation.

Kim Rancourt may not be a household name, but he should be. Not only did he release one of the best albums of 2017 so far in Plum Plum, but Kim has always been in the right place at the right time. He grew up in Detroit and had the opportunity to see the MC5, The Stooges, and Sun Ra. He moved to New York and became a regular at CBGBs during the salad days in the mid to late 70s. Then Kim became hooked up with Sonic Youth and the 80s post punk bands of New York. Kim is also a tour guide at Lincoln Center and Coney Island. Most importantly, Kim is a super nice guy and incredibly humble. His stories are captivating and he gives a great interview.
