Holy shit! Feeenominal! I didn’t have any plans to review this right away, but after seeing Lilly and her fine band last night at Club 603 in Baltimore, MD, I was compelled to do so. I hadn’t heard the material off of this album yet. Hearing the songs live and for the first time last night, I immediately connected and recognized their greatness, instantly.  (more…)

Before I even discuss the music, some time needs to be dedicated to describing the venue, Club 603. The setting is an oasis in Baltimore City with mature tress and no indication that you are within city limits. It is a complete escape for the drudgery and stress of daily life. This album is truly comforting. Like coming in from the cold or bathing in a hot spring, this fine album makes me feel relaxed and content. There is definitely a psychedelic texture to these songs. Whatever the amalgamations, permutations, and combinations are, it is certainly the winning formula like the Colonel’s recipe. (more…)

This esteemed singer/songwriter has a 40 year music career, but he isn’t so well known in The US of A because he hails from Australia. That is the only reason that I can think of as to why he hasn’t “blown up” in the United States. His music is of the highest quality, both lyrically and musically. Paul has been described this way, “He is to Australia what Bruce Springsteen is to New Jersey and what Ray Davies is to England.” Pretty fine compliment, but Kelly has earned those accolades.  (more…)

A little bit Skynyrd and little bit Bad Company and a whole lot more. This is some great rock and roll. These guys seem to draw from a lot of different wells: country, punk, and 80s alternative. Heathen Sons is: Joshua Huggins on vocals & guitar, Dayton Swords on lead Guitar, John Watson on bass, and Brady Brueggen on drums. These guys have a very energetic sound and can get heavy or light with the best of them. When you listen to Georgia (Track 4), it will hit you like a 20 pound sledge hammer.  Both heavy and dark & light and breezy. In the same song. (more…)

Seeing Scott live is like going to church. It is only fitting that The Southgate House Revival is in The Grace Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1866. Scott, of course was on stage in the main sanctuary giving us all of his Sunday learning. I know it was a Friday night, but it was a great service, nonetheless. To see Scott Biram live is the only way to properly explain the way he plays and how much sound he makes for one person. Well, that is why he is the self described “The Dirty Old One Man Band”. It really is a religious experience.  (more…)
