Pure late 60’s psychedelia. But done absolutely flawlessly where it sounds completely current. Very low fi and minimalistic but absolutely fantastic. Hip and fresh and full of attitude. Pure lovely garage music. Track 3 – Save, immediately caught my ear. It is steeped in psychedelic sound with a touch of Beat Happening. Beginning (Track 5) could be a Kinks song. It is extremely will written and great backing vocals add appeal to this track. Mathew Wattles from Austin, Texas knows how to construct a beautiful song with just enough quirkiness and time changes to keep it out of the mainstream. The album opens with Average Girl with had a number of time changes that makes the listener think if that was a mistake. No, I don’t think it is. It is part of the song composition. A nice touch if you ask me. The cymbals and distorted guitar really add credibility to this acid drenched number.
Trespass (Track 2) is a little more on the punk side. Sounds a little Ramones-esque with a nice Stooges guitar solo at the conclusion of the song. Bad Condition (Track 4) rounds out this EP. This is a short rather, frantic number. Authentic psychedelia right here in the 21st century. You owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of this great one. There are also additional tracks on the Soundcloud site.
